The biggest problem with much of today's training is that it doesn't help you deal with everything. It isolates a single subject and deals with that subject alone. Unfortunately our organisations don't work that way, so why do we try to learn that way?
Imagine you decided to learn to juggle. You probably wouldn't try to learn to handle each ball in isolation from the others and then hope it all fell into place. It is also unlikely that you would grab 3 balls and head to the nearest carnival, hoping to learn "on the job". You would probably learn to handle one ball and then add another and when you were comfortable with the two of them you would add the third. Sure, you need some theory, but the real trick lies in practicing the skills and getting feedback on how you are going.
We believe that most people "get" the bits. They simply need to learn to put it all together. They need a place to practice, get feedback and see how others deal with similar issues. They need to have a chance to play with different concepts and try out different strategies. They need to have a chance to discuss the hard issues and find solutions to their problems. By doing all of these things, they would learn to run their organisations better and would be able to constantly improve.
...and so we decided to build games for people to learn. Not simple games to teach simple skills, but real games that simulate the real world. We created Games4Leaders.
We started operating in 2009 and so far only have two employees. Craig builds the games and Roydon builds the business. Both of us are having a lot of fun.
